Nestled in the majestic surroundings of the Salt Lake valley, CompuSoft Development has been writing accounting and MRP software since 1993 (then known as CompuSoft Management Company) for the manufacturing and distribution sectors. In January of 2002, CompuSoft’s name was changed to CompuSoft Development in order to reflect the new direction in product focus.

Observing an ever widening gulf between the amount of information companies are able to put into their software system and the ability to extract information for reporting purposes, CompuSoft began focusing exclusively on developing Business Intelligence software. Software systems have evolved in their sophistication and can do more and more to streamline business processes, but the ability to report off of the massive amount of data has not kept pace.

Because of the importance of having daily access to data in order to make critical business decisions, various Business Intelligence products have emerged that give companies views into their processes. Those products ship with a wide variety of capabilities, but in the end, most end up being too expensive to purchase and maintain, as well as too complex for the average, non-IT person to create their own reports. With this challenge in mind, CompuSoft set out to develop a BI tool that is, above all, easy to use and cost effective (both to purchase and maintain).

Ease of use is a challenge in and of itself because to make a product intuitive, far more detail and programming is required on the back end. Not willing to compromise on usability, CompuSoft was determined to write a BI solution that works the way users think. The result of much research, as to how most users think about reporting, yielded the conclusion that spreadsheets are far and away the preferred tool.

Armed with this, CompuSoft developed a unique BI solution that is as easy to use as a standard spreadsheet, but one, importantly, that does not contain the inherent limitations of spreadsheets. The product, Synoptix, allows users to create any report they require – whether summary or detailed – with incredible ease, and then gives them complete drill down functionality right into the detailed data. Synoptix has become an industry leading BI tool offered on many different platforms and operating systems, and has forged new territory with its cutting edge technology.
